SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7/8/2022
Hi everyone! As I prepare this report, it is amazing to me how quickly this year is
flying by. As a youth, summer and the adventures one would go on seemed
endless. As an adult the reality of how quickly time passes is always on our minds.
The massive list of things to do becomes a challenge getting everything
accomplished.
In town government, we have our list as well. Our Water Superintendent Ed Orsi
has almost completed the seasonal flushing of water hydrants. This is a very
import function. The task becomes a preventive measure as well. During the
process we identify hydrants that need work and get things repaired in the event
we need to use them.
The Highway Department has been very busy as well. Work on the lower end of
Bonnieview Road and “ditching” is now in progress. A little shimming of Black Top
and filling in pot holes will also be taken care of. The mowing of the road side is
also in progress. Please look for safety signs and drive slower to keep our workers
safe.
Finally, the Parks Department continues to work hard with mowing of cemeteries,
beach and other public areas. This time of the year, the beach, cleaning of
restrooms and trash pick-up becomes a 7 day a week operation. A big “THANK-
YOU” to our entire Wilmington Team.
Please note the digital speed sign is making its way around the town. It’s a gentle
reminder for people to slow down. Sadly, the sign alone is not working and we
have asked the New York State Police and Essex County Sheriff’s Department for
extra Patrols on our roads.
Donations for the Bicentennial Time Capsule are still being accepted. As
proposed, the Capsule will be placed at Preston Festival Field and will be opened
in 50 years. To contribute to this exciting project, please contact the Supervisors
office or Project organizer Marjorie Swift.
In upcoming meetings, please note that the Wilmington Town Board will meet on
Tuesday July 12 th at 7pm at the Community Center. Our Bicentennial Committee
will be meeting on July 14 th at 12:30 at the town offices. As always, the public is
welcome to attend.
In this week’s History trivia, we added a Historic Photo of Wilmington’s own A &
W. Established in 1965 by the Johnson Family, this business has become a local
