SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 12/9/2022

Hello everyone! It is an exciting week in Wilmington as we prepare for the 15 th
Annual Christmas Celebration this Friday December 9 th . Our Santa Gift Parade
kicks off at 4:30 pm. There is a parade route listed on our Facebook page. At 7:15
pm, the Fireworks will kick off with a little extra pop to celebrate Wilmington’s
Bicentennial.
Preston Festival field on Springfield Road will be a great location for Fireworks
viewing. Hot Chocolate and Christmas Music will also be on hand. We will publish
a list of sponsors in the next few days, however, a sincere thank you to all that
make this event possible. An event like the Christmas Celebration is just a small
example of true community spirt.
Speaking of community spirit, Hometown pride was on hand in the towns of Jay
and Black Brook as they celebrated “Christmas in the Forks” last week. I was
honored to serve as one of the Judges for the parade representing Wilmington.
Everyone associated with the “Christmas in the Forks” event is to be commended.
Even with the yucky weather, the crowds were impressive. Well done!
Just a reminder that this Saturday the Friends of the Wilmington Library will be
sponsoring a “Cookie by the Pound” sale at the Wilmington Community Center
starting at 10 am. There will also be a gift Basket Raffle drawing at 12:30 pm. be
sure to check out this event and the goodies.
Also on Saturday, the Wilmington Youth Commission will be sponsoring a
“Holiday Fun” event. Holiday Crafts, Pizza, Cookie decorating and the movie “The
Christmas Chronicles” will be playing. Admission is $10.00 and fun starts at 4 pm
ending at 7:30 pm. Location of this event is at the Youth Center in the park. One
can pre-register (poster on town Facebook with QR code) or just show up.
The Town of Wilmington has a Full-Time opening in the Highway Department. Our
good friend Eric Bruce will complete his last day with the town on December 28 th .
We thank Eric for his years of service and wish him well in his new venture. For
individuals wanting an application for employment, please stop by the town
offices. Highway Superintendent Louie Adragna will be setting up interviews.
I was at an Adirondack Association of Towns & Villages Conference in Lake George
on Monday. Topics like the Environmental Bond Act, Energy Saving Technology
and Housing were just some of the topics discussed. I will have to say that this
event was one of the more productive and informative conferences I have
attended. The networking with other local officials was very beneficial as we
navigate many similar challenges. I will chat more about some of the issues
discussed at the conference in the upcoming weeks.
Hard to believe we are in the final weeks of 2022 and our Bicentennial
Celebration. It has been a joy and honor to be part of this historic milestone. Even
though I have lived in Wilmington my entire life, I have learned new things about
our town throughout the year. Thanks again to everyone that work on the many
projects.

The regular monthly meeting of the Wilmington Town Board will take place next
Tuesday December 13 th starting at 7 pm. As always, the public is welcome to
attend. Please remember my door or accessibility is always available.
Well friends, that’s all for this week. Have a great weekend and see you around
town. – Roy Holzer
