SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 1-13-2023

Hello everyone! Words cannot express how happy it makes me to see all the
“How WILMINGTON does Winter” signs at Whiteface Mountain Ski Center and
around our community. A real effort has been made by the FISU World University
Games, Adirondack Sports Council and all involved with this awesome event to
give communities the name recognition they deserve. To some this may not
seem like a big deal. To me it is extremely important and the inclusion of
Wilmington on signage is something I hope to see more of going forward.
As I write this report, our town skating rink has reopened. Mother Nature has
cooperated enough for our crew to build the ice back up. Fingers crossed on the
weather cooperating to keep the ice skate/able. This Saturday and Sunday, the
restroom and the park building will be open to accommodate the public. The
hours are 12 to 8 on Saturday and 9 to 5 on Sunday. Please remember, the
building will not be staffed at all times but checked throughout the day. A more
detailed schedule of the operating hours will be forthcoming soon.
December 31 st 2022 was Jim Selkirk’s official last day as Town Justice. On behalf of
the Town of Wilmington, I would like to thank Jim for his years of service to our
community. In the time I have served as Town Supervisor, I have seen Jim as a
very dedicated public servant that took his position of Town Judge very seriously.
Although, we will see Jim around town, I will certainly miss chatting with him as
our weekly conversations could sometime be interesting to say the least. Best
wishes Jim.
Please be advised that the yearly Essex County Board of Supervisors Resolution
ordering the Confinement of dogs to protect the deer herd is now active. This
means that pursuant to section 120 of the Agriculture & Markets Law, that all
dogs shall be confined/leashed until May 2023.
For 2023 I have been assigned the following committees and tasks forces as
Supervisor with the Essex County Board of Supervisors. They include, Ways &
Means, Public Safety, Public Works, Vice Chair of Economic Development,
Legislative, Transportation, Fair Grounds Chair, Emergency Services, Elections,
Building & Facilities, Contract Negotiation Team, and Sheriffs Contract
Negotiations. Over 2023 I plan to write a little more about Essex County topics
and try to provide a little more insight on county government.
Well my friends, that’s enough writing for this week. See you around town.
