SUPERVISOR’S REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING MARCH 24, 2023
Hello and welcome to spring! I am so ready to start working on my lawn, garden
and other outdoor activities. There is just something about the spring of the year.
I start of this week’s report with a Heartfelt Congratulations to Judy Lawrence for
her special recognition at this year’s 37 th Annual Community dinner. This special
honor is so well deserved to Judy. Congratulations is also extended to the
Wilmington Historical Society members for receiving the 2022 Citizen of the Year
Award. Both Judy and the Historical Society put in long hours last year as we
celebrated our bicentennial year.
Thank You to American Legion Post 504 from Au Sable Forks that recently
awarded the Town of Wilmington a grant for our Hometown Banner Program as
well as funds for Memorial Day Grave Flags. The thoughtfulness and assistance of
the members and Commander Hewston are much appreciated.
We would also like to express our thanks to Stewarts and the Stewart’s
Foundation for donating the town funds for our youth programs. The funds come
from their Holiday match Program. They received 1,990 applications from various
organizations and Wilmington feels very fortunate to receive consideration.
Please note that we have to restrict vehicle access to Haselton and Bonnieview
Cemeteries until the dirt road dries up a little. A small parking area will be
available and those wishing to walk into the cemeteries. We will reopen areas as
soon as possible.
The Town skating rink is now closed for the season. Thank You to the Parks
Department for doing such an awesome job with the rink this past season.
We will be doing another Easter Bunny Photo shoot this year at the Youth Center.
Town Youth can have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny and be given a
goody bag to enjoy. Should anyone wish to volunteer to help with this event,
please contact the Supervisors Office. A date for the event has been set for Friday
April 7 th from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Finally, this past week I had the opportunity to meet with Union Officials from the
New York State Nurses Association that represent the Nursing Staff at Adirondack
Medical Center. As many are aware, I have had serious concerns about the
closure of the Emergency Room in Lake Placid. Now, Adirondack Health plans are
to close a Dental Clinic that serves our residents that need it the most. I would
urge everyone to educate themselves on what is occurring with these issues.
From a potential closure of the Emergency Room, Dental Clinic or the specifics
behind contract negotiations of staff, area residents should learn what is going on
and ask questions.
Please be advised that there will not be a Supervisors Report next week. I am
taking the week off. Look for my next communication the week of April 7 th .
