SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 6-9-2023
Hello and thanks for reading another Supervisors weekly report. First and foremost is a notice that the regular June meeting of the Wilmington Town Board has been postponed from 6/13/23 to June 20th. The meeting will be held at 7 pm. With any luck we will have our new video zoom meeting and recording set up completed for this meeting.
There is still time to sign up for the Wilmington–Whiteface Whiskey Run to be held on June 17th. Both 5 and 10 k races will be held. This popular event also hosts same day activities at Preston Festival Field which includes Whiskey and Food tasting, Battle of Plattsburgh Military ceremony in remembrance of local War of 1812 soldiers, Music, entertainment, raffles, history displays and much more. Festival runs from 11 am to 4 pm. For more information, please go to www.adkwhiskeyrun.com
On June 21st at 10 am there will be an Essex County Tax Foreclose Real Estate Auction at the Best Western Plus in Ticonderoga Inn & Suites. Although the Town of Wilmington does not have any property in the auction, there are dozens of properties available throughout Essex County included. We have auction booklets at the town offices or for more information, please go to NYSAuctions.com This past week I attended a one day conference held in Lake Placid by the Adirondack Association of Towns & Villages. This group is a collection of all the town leaders from various towns and villages throughout the Adirondack Park. The main topics of discussion were the unrealistic financial assistance by the state and federal government for waste water treatment facilities and upgrades. By one account, one small community could be looking at almost $2,000 per user for just waste water alone. The other topic was attainable housing for our areas. This is an issue that is Park and Statewide.
Even though work on the 2024 Town Budget does not start until September, information is that the Health Insurance Companies have requested rate increases anywhere from 10 to over 25 percent. Clearly we will monitor this. We have already started looking at other proposals that will provide similar coverage at rates both the town and our team of employees can afford. We will keep you posted.
The Town of Wilmington will be participating in a sunscreen dispenser program at our town beach this summer. As part of a program the Essex County Public Health received from a NYSACHO Climate Mini Grant, the town will partner with Public Health to provide free sunscreen at our facility. The dispenser will be mounted to the lifeguard building. Sadly, Essex County has a higher melanoma Cancer rate than other parts of the North Country. We hope the sunscreen will help provide extra protection for our citizens.
Well friends, that’s all for this week.
See you around town.
