SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7/28/2023
Greetings from the “Nerve” center of the Wilmington Town Government also known as the town offices. ((ha-ha))
I start this report with news that soil testing was performed on the future site of the Wilmington Homestead Housing property this past week. Atlantic Testing Laboratories conducted subsurface investigations of the soil by using a portable drill that went several feet in the ground. In the drill were these plastic sleeves that collected soil and will later be analyzed for contamination like oil or PCBs. The testing is a requirement of the Northern Boarders grant to purchase the property. We will keep you posted on the next steps forward.
Rain or Shine the 2023 Wilmington Music Fest will take place this Saturday July 29th starting at 4 pm in the town park featuring the Ultimate Foreigner-Journey Tribute. Check out the entire event at facebook.com/wilmington Mountain MusicFest The event organizers are excited to be welcoming THREE great bands to have a community minded, fun day filled with great music, awesome food vendors and more! Organizers have also announced that pop up tents will be permitted along the back fence area. Pop up tents cannot obstruct the viewing area though. We are very fortunate to have such a great group of sponsors and volunteers for the Music Fest. Thank you all. In other news, the Essex County Health Department will be conducting a Rabies Clinic on Wednesday August 9th at the Lake Placid Horse Show Grounds from 6 pm to 8 pm. A $5. Donation is appreciated. To ensure the safety of staff, residents & pets, people are asked to pre-register for the clinic at 518-873-3500. Since I mentioned August events already, remember that the Essex County Fair will take place from August 16th through August 20th. The Essex County Agricultural Society works all year long planning and fund raising for this event. Be sure to check it out.
It has been awhile since we reminded folks of our Wilmington Transfer Station Hours. We operate the transfer station on Tuesdays & Thursdays 11 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 8 to 4 pm. Also, remember there are bottle deposit bins at the landfill that allow residents to donate their bottles with deposits. The bottles are picked up and the funds collected either go to the Lake Placid Graduating Class or our very own Youth Commission for program activities. You get to decide where you place your bottle returns.
Finally, I wanted to remind residents that I serve on the Essex County Industrial Development Board. As such I get to witness firsthand the dedicated and knowledgeable staff we have in this organization.
