SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-8-2023
This week’s report starts off with a reminder of all the activities around Wilmington this Saturday. First, is the popular Festival of Colors that kicks off at 10 am at Preston Festival Field on Springfield Road. Look for all kinds of fun throughout the day. At 5:30 pm the same day, we will have a make–up concert from the Summer Concert Series at the town beach. This is a special concert featuring the band “On3” and promises to be a great way to wrap up your Saturday.
We have received a notice from the Essex County Board of Elections that Individuals, across multiple counties throughout the state have been going door to door impersonating County Board of Elections staff. These individuals are allegedly confronting voters regarding their registration status, and erroneously accusing voters of committing a crime because of how they appear in the state voter database.
Although Essex County has not yet received any reports of this happening here, should anyone approach you claiming to be from the Board of Elections, please contact the New York State Police or the Essex County Board of Elections at 518- 873-3474.
Please note that the Board of Elections does not contact voters in person at their home.
With fall and cooler temperatures just around the corner, I wanted to remind residents that the Adirondack Community Action Program located in Elizabethtown operates a Weatherization & Energy service to income eligible citizens. A typical weatherization review will seal drafts, tune and clean your heating system, add insulation to attic, sidewalls and other areas of concern. The program will install energy efficient LED light Bulbs, smoke and carbon Monoxide detectors as well.
To start the weatherization process, one should contact ACAP at 518-873-3207. Once a completed application is accepted and approved, an energy auditor will sit down with the homeowner and complete a questionnaire about your home. Should anyone need any additional information or assistance, please free to contact my office.
The Town Government has started the process of the 2024 Budget. Although never “fun” in figuring out challenges for the upcoming year, our focus will be looking at increased health insurance costs, operating expenses and providing for wages that retains town staff. This year I am also proposing a “longevity” payment that rewards employees for loyalty and dedication to our community. In a time of staff shortages and retention, a program that recognizes long term staff is essential.
Just a reminder, the regular September meeting of the Wilmington Town Board will be Tuesday September 12th at 7 pm.
