SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-15-2023
Like every community across our state, the Town of Wilmington flew our American Flag in front of the Community Center at Half Staff on September 11th this past week.
For many, everyone around that time remembers where they were that terrible day. It certainly was a time of much uncertainty and sadness. For me, I can remember our entire Wilmington community coming together at the Nazarene Church for moments of prayer and solidarity the evening of 911. Regardless of religious denomination or beliefs, it was community. It is Wilmington. It is what makes our community so special. We will never forget the victims of 911 or how the world changed that day.
On behalf of the Wilmington Get Together Committee, a sincere “Thank You” is extended to Brandon Montag who operates one of Wilmington’s newest businesses, Nice Guy Self Storage for allowing the Get Together group to have a free storage unit at his Rt. 86 storage facility. This will allow the group to keep all the event equipment in one location for future events. Thanks Again Brandon. Speaking of Events, Tina Terry is currently organizing the 6th Annual “Trunk or Treat” event that will be held on Sunday October 29th starting at 4pm. This event will be held at the KOA property located at 5591 NYS Rt. 86. If you would like to volunteer or sponsor a “booth” area, please contact Tina at 518-637-7900
Highway Superintendent Louie Adragna asked me to let people know that parts of Hardy Road will be paved the end of this month or beginning of October. Essex County also plans to pave part of Haselton Road around the same time.
Last week I wrote a little about the weatherization program. This week I would like to remind residents that the 2023-2024 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) will start dispensing funds November 1st.
Income guidelines for a single household size is a Gross monthly income of $3,035. For a 2 person household size it increases to a Gross monthly income of $3,970. The base grant award is $900 for fuel, $635 for wood and $400 for electric depending on what you heat with.
Either the office for the Aging or Social Services will assist citizens with the application process for the HEAP program.
I don’t know if it is just me or if others have noticed all the deer around our town. Traveling around our roads I have noticed a larger than normal amount of deer jumping in the road. What another great reason to slow down around Wilmington. Car versus deer is bad for all involved.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone that September is Suicide prevention month. It is all of our jobs to work together in awareness and prevention. If anyone needs someone to talk with, the Essex County Mental health Services is only a phone call away at 518 873-3670 or 1-888-854-3773 after hours, weekends and holidays.
That’s all for this week my friends. See you around town. – Roy Holzer
