SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 10-27-23

Hello everyone! This past week I attended an event in Westport celebrating the Housing Assistance of Essex County’s latest housing rehab project. The function was very well attended and it was announced at this same event that the group will now be known as “Adirondack Roots” The new slogan is “Better Housing, Stronger Communities”

Adirondack Roots is the organization that the Town of Wilmington will be partnering with in bringing obtainable housing to our town. As many may recall, a $1.3 million dollar grant was recently awarded by New York State for our project in Wilmington.

Last Friday I attended the Common Ground Conference in North Creek. The topics at this event ranged from local housing, broadband/cellular, bond act, invasive species and a long list of other topics and networking. Members of the Adirondack Association of Towns & Villages, Senator Dan Stec, Assemblymen Jones and Simpson were also in attendance. As your Town Supervisor, I feel it is very important to attend these events and get the “Wilmington Word” out.

This Sunday is the big day for all our young ghost and goblins as they participate in the 6th Annual “Trunk or Treat” event at the KOA on Route 86. The fun goes from 4 pm to 6 pm. For more information, please contact Tina Terry at 518 637-7900 The spirit of Halloween is also alive and well at a couple of our Wilmington Businesses. From elaborate inside and outside decorations at Twisted Raven to the Spooky walk at the Hungry Trout called “Haunting in the Woods”, there is fun for all ages in our little community. Be sure to check them out.

Just a couple reminders that our bulletin board at the Wilmington Post Office has a Sample Ballot on display for the November Elections. Also posted is a list of Surplus items that the town board will be taking sealed bids on at the monthly November meeting.

If anyone would like any free gallons of Hand Sanitizer, please contact the town offices. We have quite a bit left. Although we still have some COVID test kits for town residents, they are in limited supply. We have also been advised that the free kits will be no longer available to us in the near future.

Please note there will be a Public Hearing on the Town Of Wilmington Preliminary Budget on November 9th A Public Hearing for the Tax Cap override will be at 6:30 pm, Budget Hearing at 6:45 pm and regular monthly meeting directly after the public hearings. Our budget this year represents a 4.75% increase. Specific details of the budget are available at the Town Clerk’s office.

Well friends, that’s all for this week. See you around town. -Roy Holzer
