Hello Everyone–
REGULAR MEETING
The town board will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 12,
2024, at 7 pm.
The meeting will be held at the Community Center and can be seen
online at https://meet.goto.com/townofwilmington or by phone 1-408-
650-3123 Access Code: 377-399-733.
Colin Loher from the Visitors Bureau will be the guest and give an
update on what’s happening at the Visitors Bureau and what to expect
for 2025.
As for the rest, the board will follow up on the preliminary budget to see
whether a final budget can be settled, talk about an open employment
position, and return to a discussion about a permit process for using
town property to host outside events.
VETERANS DAY
Town offices are closed Monday, November 11th to honor Veterans
Day.
Veterans Day, like Independence Day, falls on the same date each year
regardless of the day of the week. To end the First World War, they
agreed to stop fighting on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th
month and sent orders early enough, so everyone knew to stop shooting.
By the way, Daylight Savings is another thing we have the First World
War to thank for. I used to find the “fall back” change in the clock great
if it meant an extra hour of sleep. Not that way anymore.
COUNTY CORNER
A few days ago, I posted on Facebook a notice from the Essex County
Office of Emergency Services asking for public help to create Hazard
Mitigation Plans. Please take a moment to click on the link and
participate.
These plans will help us anticipate where the danger is to our roads,
bridges and buildings. Many of Wilmington’s neighbors suffered
damage to roads, bridges and culverts during the large storms over the
summer. That was followed up with pictures and stories about
Hurricanes Helene and Milton. I don't like to think what would happen if
that much water hits the Adirondack Mountains.
But we can do our best to look at Wilmington and identify areas that are
most at risk, set up shelters, and draft a plan today.
Appreciate your help.
