SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 10-18-24 The October 4 th Supervisors Report noted the lack of a hard frost and wondered whether we would get snow by October 14 th , my usual benchmark. Well, we got both, and on October 14 th ! This is a real spectacular time of year so long as the clouds don’t choke it out. There can be no real dispute about that, as today’s photograph shows. Thanks to L. Garfield for the photo. COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING The Town of Jay hosted an open house yesterday evening to gather comments and suggestions about the future, which [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 10-4-24

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 10-4-24 Welcome to October! Today may be the actual peak for colors and the weather has been spectacular for the past week. I have not seen a hard frost at our place and am starting to wonder at it. One more mow, at least. SPRUCING UP THE COMMUNITY CENTER With all this nice weather, the Parks team has had a good chance to work on the Community Center—replacing rotten railroad ties, staining/painting, new flashing where it is obviously needed. With any luck they may have another week or ten days to continue the sprucing up. My [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-20-24

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-20-24 This week follows a harvest theme. EQUINOX AND HARVEST MOON Sunday, September 22nd is the autumnal equinox. That was quick! But I am not sure how much I would like really extended periods of light, and happily, it is not a question that I will face. Earlier this week there was an incredible Harvest Moon, made more incredible because it was also a supermoon and at its closet distance to the Earth. And there was a partial eclipse. The clear dry weather this week made for a good show. I never prepare well enough to [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-13-24 SPRUCING UP THE COMMUNITY CENTER The Parks Department worked on the Community Center this week and, as gardeners know, ruthless pruning is often called for. Many bushes and shrubs were so overgrown there was nothing for it and they are now gone. So too are the wasp and hornets’ nests. Railings are being given new coats of stain. I am not sure when the building will get a new coat, but it is on the schedule. Where needed fascia boards will be replaced CEMETERY Earlier the year I had some good discussions about the cemetery—what [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-6-24 Greetings from the other side of summer! The weather has been ideal this week and it looks like the hummingbirds have started south. On June 7th I uploaded a photo of a snapping turtle laying eggs at the beach. Well, the eggs hatched on August 23 or thereabouts, which matches what the AI told me—80 to 90 days. I probably might not remember next year. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TOWN OF WILMINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT Last Saturday I joined the Fire Department at its annual dinner to celebrate its 100th year! Thank you for the invitation. Congratulations [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-23-24 Summers move way too fast, and Labor Day Weekend is nearly here. I put on a cap this week that usually stays on my head for about 8 months a year. It is a little soon. THURSDAY NIGHT CONCERTS AT THE BEACH The final concert for this season is Thursday with Pale Horse. The Wilmington Historical Society is hosting an appreciation for the volunteers who helped with this year’s successful Whiskey Run and Festival. I have uploaded their flyer to Facebook. WORK SESSION The Town Board will meet in its regular work session on Wednesday, [...]
