SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 6/21/2024 Hope all went well during the short but intense burst of heat. WHISKEY RUN AND FESTIVAL—FOLLOW UP The Wilmington Historical Society had a perfect day to host a 10k/5k race and the festival that followed. Seemed to be very well attended. Several vendors were disappointed by the spotty Verizon service that made processing sales difficult. While we are often at the mercy of the utility providers, the town will investigate a wireless bridge Wi-Fi connection for the field. Keene uses one at Marcy Field. It sometimes happens that even backup systems won’t work when asked, [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 6/7/2024 Happy Friday! Snapping Turtles were out laying eggs and seen at a few locations around town. The picture below was taken by board member Laura Hooker at the beach. Each year the turtles will dig in the sand to lay their eggs. I saw a turtle on Hardy Road digging in the sand near the edge of the pavement. That doesn’t seem to be a good spot. The turtles are kind of ugly and look like the dinosaurs from those books I loved as a kid. My kids liked the turtle Pokemon types (I could [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5/31/2024 Greetings: The benefit for the Wilmington Library “Feed Your Need to Read” was held on Wednesday at the Hungry Trout. We had a terrific time—the food and service were astounding, the company terrific, but after such tasty fare I didn’t have the energy to read much. The weather has been fabulous as well—dry air, sunshine, and cool overnights. This weekend promises more of the same and just in time for the second chapter of the event season. The Annual Uphill Races are tomorrow starting at 5:30 pm. The Whiteface Visitor’s Bureau posted a traffic alert [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5/17/2024 Definite signs of summer! 75 degrees, sunshine, lunch at the A&W and visitors enjoying themselves in beautiful Wilmington. Another sign: the lawn needs another mow, but I am less stoked about that. Busy week at the town offices as well. STR Amendments At the regular meeting this past Tuesday the board hammered out amendments to the local short term rental law. Copies of the amendments will be available the Community Center at the beginning of next week, as well as at the Town’s website. A public hearing on whether to adopt the amendment will be [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5/10/2024 Greetings— TOWN CLEAN UP DAY—TOMORROW, 9-12 For those planning to help tomorrow, please gather at the beach a little before 9. The weather report shows chilly (54F as a high—chilly enough), but minimal chance of rain. A day or so ago, I posted on Facebook a poster that showed the basic information. We will have some but maybe not enough visibility vests, so please wear bright clothes. Bring gloves. We expect to have some, but again maybe not enough. Thanks to Paula L and Karl V-E for organizing! And thanks to the Whiteface Visitors Bureau [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 5/3/2024 Greetings— It comes as a bit of surprise (but it shouldn’t) how quickly Spring lands in the North Country. Nothing gradual—just a thump. Not that long ago 8 inches of snow and now I’m late to mow the lawn. And who knows? A Mother’s Day snowstorm may drop in. But the hummingbird feeder is ready. Any sightings? It is always nice sitting on the porch with those aggressive little buzz bombs. TOWN CLEAN UP DAY—May 11, 2024. As mentioned last week, volunteers have stepped forward to help organize and oversee a spring clean-up. It is [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 4/26/2024 EARTH DAY CLEAN UP Thanks to the volunteers and Ausable River Association for the clean-up efforts on Earth Day. Also, thanks to those residents who have gone out (and continue to go out) on their own to help clean up our town. Our surroundings are so magnificent and these efforts help keep it that way. As mentioned in last week’s report, we talked over a local clean-up day for the community. I have heard from several of you interested in volunteering and helping with a community clean-up day. Based on that interest, it looks like [...]
