SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-6-24 Greetings from the other side of summer! The weather has been ideal this week and it looks like the hummingbirds have started south. On June 7th I uploaded a photo of a snapping turtle laying eggs at the beach. Well, the eggs hatched on August 23 or thereabouts, which matches what the AI told me—80 to 90 days. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-23-24 Summers move way too fast, and Labor Day Weekend is nearly here. I put on a cap this week that usually stays on my head for about 8 months a year. It is a little soon. THURSDAY NIGHT CONCERTS AT THE BEACH The final concert for this season is Thursday with Pale Horse. The Wilmington Historical Society is hosting an appreciation for the volunteers who helped with this year’s successful Whiskey Run and Festival. I have uploaded their flyer to Facebook. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-16-24 WILMINGTON GET-TOGETHER Tomorrow is the annual Get-Together at the town beach. Take advantage of the last couple weeks before Labor Day to have food, fun and good company. The Parks Department has supplied the beach with more sand for sandcastle building and re-worked the horse shoe pit. There will be games (2 giant Jenga games, Corn Hole and giant Connect 4) and a lifeguard on duty. Thanks to Sadie and the other volunteer organizers. Come out and enjoy! SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-9-24 Soggy day—this summer’s weather pattern seems to bring large amounts of water once every few weeks, and many nearby towns and communities have been wrecked by it. Please keep fingers crossed that this storm brings less damage to our all our neighbors and to our town. CHANGES AT THE VISITORS’ BUREAU As many know, today is Michelle’s last day as director of the Wilmington Visitor’s Bureau. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7-26-24 WORK SESSION—WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 2024 at 4:00 PM The board will hold its regular work session meeting at the Community Center this Wednesday at 4:00 pm. Guests from Adirondack Roots will be there to update the board and public on the Homestead Housing project going on at the former Coarding property on Route 86. At the board's last meeting there were questions about the project, rentals versus option to purchase, etc. This will give everyone a chance to learn more and ask questions. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7-19-24 What a relief-- nice weather has moved into town! I needed a fleece at the summer concert at the beach last evening. BEACH AND EVENTS The beach has been busy, the lifeguards are doing great, and boats are getting rented. The Thursday night summer concerts started last night with cooler, dryer and beautiful weather. Last weekend I learned that the beach is not a good location for larger events--and Sunday’s event was too much. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7-12-24 It is a short report this week. BERYL Thanks very much to the Highway Department for keeping an eye on the roads and bridges in the town. Juniper Hill had some washouts that the department worked on immediately. The Water Department had anticipated the rainfall and topped up the reservoirs so the town could avoid the issue of storm water. The Parks Department wrestled with docks and floats at the beach to secure those from floating down to the dam. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 7-5-24 CLOSURES The town offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, July 4 th and 5 th , and will re-open Monday July 8, 2024. The transfer station will be closed Thursday, July 4 th but will be open Saturday, July 6 th for its regular hours. GAGA PIT This week the Parks Department installed a new Gaga Pit in the park opposite the youth center. We have ordered balls for it and will get those to the Youth Center.
