SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 4/12/2024
SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 4/12/2024 Hello Everyone! FOLLOW UP (AND FINAL) NOTES ON THE ECLIPSE Wilmington rises to the occasion, as it always does. Luckily, we were not inundated by hordes of cars. Heavy traffic was reported going down Fox Farm to Springfield as visitors left Whiteface. But I doubt it was at the volume of traffic I saw on a video from Keene Valley with a many miles long stream of cars headed east on Rte 73 towards the Northway. Our visitors walked comfortably around the center of town, finding sunny open places to sit with friends and family [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 4/5/2024 Hello Everyone! Hope all is well and that everyone shouldered the snow well enough and is now braced for the Eclipse. Next week’s report will, I hope, be the last to cover the Eclipse (pun intended). April 8 th —What to Expect (?) Many have already heard blasted everywhere that if you don’t need to go anywhere on Monday, don’t—stay at home. Of course, no one knows how many visitors Wilmington will have. Saw an estimate for day tripping visitors to the Adirondacks—100,000. 2 people per car means 50,000 cars. For NYS as a whole [...]

There will be photographs and gift bags. And the weather looks sunny, clear, and not too cold. Many thanks to the volunteers and the Parks staff for getting the Easter Bunny to stop by with such a busy schedule. SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 3/22/2024
SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 3/22/2024 Hey everyone-- Apparently, the snow we ordered for December and January may finally make it here tonight. The temperature dip for the past few days took some adjustment, but when the sun is out, it feels better. Getting Ready for the Eclipse No one knows if the weather will cooperate to let us see the eclipse, but the word is that the rooms in Wilmington have been fully booked. The mystery is-how many visitors will simply drive up for the day? No one knows that either. The town is not hosting an event. Whiteface will [...]
SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 3/8/2024
SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 3/8/2024 Hey everyone-- I saw some Robins yesterday in the yard. Really. A few weeks ago, I thought I heard some, but that was still February. Remember that Day Light Savings begins this weekend. I still have some clocks that need adjusting, but I find getting myself adjusted more of a challenge. Town Board Meeting The Town Board will have its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the Community Center. The agenda will be posted on the town website and at the regular locations around town, but two items on the [...]
SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 3/1/2024
SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 3/1/2024 Greetings: Short report this week. Wind Storms Thanks to the Highway and Parks Department for the clean up after that wild wind the other night. When the forecast shows temperatures dropping from 50 degrees to single digits, the wind will be big. Thought the roof was going to come off our house. Spring Planning Large March snowstorms are somewhat common, so winter isn't over yet. But the board is thinking spring and summer. The town is planning additions to the playground equipment at the park targeted towards toddlers, and it decided to remove the wooden [...]
SUPERVISOR’S REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 2/23/2024
SUPERVISOR'S REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 2/23/2024 Greetings- A few of us were in NYC for the NYS Association of Towns annual meeting. I took a crash course in governmental accounting and reporting, which, though well presented, is quite a maze for the uninitiated. One thing is certain: towns continue to be strong advocates for their citizens. Towns are nearer the ground. There are 933 towns in New York, and I came away seeing that as an association there are many issues on which we agree. NYS Grants NYS announced a $60 million grant called "Restore New York". Applications for grants officially [...]
SUPERVISOR’S REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 2/16/2024
SUPERVISOR'S REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 2/16/2024 Greetings- I had an excellent lunch on Tuesday at the Methodist Church Friendship Hall. Chicken Breast with peppers and melted cheese, roasted potatoes, spinach, and a brownie. There was good conversation too (wildlife, travel, etc.). After the brownie, it was not easy rush back to the office. My thanks to everyone and I look forward to a meatloaf lunch very soon. Help for Neighbors with Winter Fuel Bills The Jay, Wilmington and AuSable (JWA) fuel fund was set up to provide extra help to residents with their fuel bills. Applicants for this extra help must [...]
SUPERVISOR’S REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 2/9/2024
SUPERVISOR'S REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 2/9/2024 Greetings- Hope all have enjoyed the nice weather this past week, with the sun out and blue skies. But I won't get fooled again. Years ago, I came home from living in California and bragged how the California weather had followed me-70 degrees and sunshine in February and March. Wrong! Ice Rink Which leads smoothly to the next update. The nights had been cold enough to maintain the ice this week, but maybe not over the weekend. It will be checked tomorrow morning and if skateable the skate area will be open. Housing Update The [...]
