SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 11-03-23  I start out this week with an official commendation to all the volunteers, businesses, organizations that made the 2023 Halloween "Trunk or Treat" so successful. Hundreds of children and adults attended the event at the KOA property in town. A special shout out to event organizer Tina Terry Preston, for doing such an awesome job. The community spirit was alive and well in Wilmington that evening.  Honestly, I think it is a toss-up who enjoys the Halloween Festivities more, the children or the adults. For myself, I absolutely love community events like this. One thing [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 10-27-23  Hello everyone! This past week I attended an event in Westport celebrating the Housing Assistance of Essex County's latest housing rehab project. The function was very well attended and it was announced at this same event that the group will now be known as "Adirondack Roots" The new slogan is "Better Housing, Stronger Communities"  Adirondack Roots is the organization that the Town of Wilmington will be partnering with in bringing obtainable housing to our town. As many may recall, a $1.3 million dollar grant was recently awarded by New York State for our project in [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 10/20/2023  Hello Friends. The fall season is definitely in the air. In fact, Whiteface recently had snow on top of the mountain. It's a little preview of things to come. On the town level, we close out one season and prepare for the next. Splash Boards are off the town dam, beach restrooms closing, banners off the utility poles and flower barrels stored for the winter.  We as a community also prepare for the general election on November 7th. Polls are open at the Community Center from 6 am to 9 pm. However, if early voting [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 10/13/2023  Hello and thanks for reading another weekly Supervisors report. From time to time I have people ask me how I find things to write about for my weekly Wilmington connection. I smile and respond it is simply because there is so much going on in Wilmington and the county. It really is that simple.  For example, at our meeting this past week, the town board approved several items that have been declared surplus. As surplus, the items that are listed will go to the highest bidder. The process for bidding will be announced sometime next [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-15-2023  Like every community across our state, the Town of Wilmington flew our American Flag in front of the Community Center at Half Staff on September 11th this past week.  For many, everyone around that time remembers where they were that terrible day. It certainly was a time of much uncertainty and sadness. For me, I can remember our entire Wilmington community coming together at the Nazarene Church for moments of prayer and solidarity the evening of 911. Regardless of religious denomination or beliefs, it was community. It is Wilmington. It is what makes our community [...]

This is a special concert featuring the band "On3" and promises to be a great way to wrap up your Saturday.  We have received a notice from the Essex [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 9-1-2023 September and the feeling of fall is in the air. I love the change of seasons and everything about it. As a town government we prepare to close the swim area of our town beach. In fact, the last day of beach operations will be Sunday September 3 rd . In spite of all the rain, it has been a good season in running the community beach. We had staff. They even showed up for work! I cannot thank our staff at the beach enough for a successful summer. The Wilmington Farmers Market wrapped up [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8/25/2023 Last weekend I had the honor of attending the Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squads 2023 Banquet. Being a former Volunteer for over 25 years in that organization, I know how dedicated the members of the department are. The yearly banquet is a way for the group to recognize members for their service. The Banquet started off with Fire Chief Louie Adragna thanking the Au Sable Fire Department and Ambulance Squad for coverage during the awards dinner. Chief Adragna also noted Life Time Honorary Members of the department. Year pins were handed out to [...]

SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-18-2023  Greetings! Big week in the area this weekend. For starters, on Saturday, we have the Wilmington Get Together Parade starting at 1 pm. The parade will line up at the drag strip in the park and head down route 86 towards the former Steinhoff's property. We are very fortunate to have the Essex County Sheriff's Department leading the parade as we kick up our yearly community event. Special thanks to Haselton Lumber for the donation of the company's flatbed truck for our parade judges.  Remember the 9th Annual Get-Together picnic will kick off at the [...]
