SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 12/29/2023

Happy New Year my friends! This is my final report to you as your Town Supervisor. I want to take this time to “Thank You” for the opportunity to have served as “Mayberry’s” Town Supervisor. For me, the job has always been rewarding and challenging at the same time.

Over the last 4 plus years as your Town Supervisor, I have used my weekly reports as a sincere way to connect with members of our community. I hope you agree.

My office is now barren of photos, motivational phrases and the items one collects in this kind of job. I feel I have had a great transition with Supervisor Elect Favor Smith. He is anxious to hit the ground running. I wish him only the best.

As I reflect back on my tenure of “Working for Wilmington”, a flood of memories come back to me. Over the different times I have officially worked for the Town of Wilmington, I am thankful for those I have worked with. From working for the town as a teenager, getting elected to the town board at the age of 18 and then becoming Town Supervisor, the various jobs have been interesting and set the groundwork for hopefully understanding this job. My first term as Supervisor was the great Ice Storm of 1998. Those times were definitely a challenge. However, after an over 20 year break from Town Government nothing compared to being a community leader during a worldwide pandemic.

Working with 3 generations of a family was also an honor as I reflect. In my first term as Supervisor, I worked with Ellen Paret. Ellen worked in the town offices under a program called “Green Thumb”. Ellen was also the grandmother of the current Town of Wilmington’s Sr. Account Clerk Nicole Forbes. In between both ladies is Nancy Randall (Ellen’s Daughter and Nicole’s mom) who has served as a temporary Town Clerk and now works part time for the town. It is amazing how life reconnects.

At the age of 58, I look forward to getting back into the private sector. I plan to enjoy being a grandpa, semi-retirement and whatever else may present itself. I am not one to sit idle for very long. ((haha))

Wrapping up my final report, I want to extend an appreciation and respect to our Town Staff. All of them. You rock and Wilmington is fortunate to have you working for our community.

Well folks, that’s all. See you around town. – Roy Holzer
