SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING 8-16-24
WILMINGTON GET-TOGETHER
Tomorrow is the annual Get-Together at the town beach. Take advantage of the last couple weeks
before Labor Day to have food, fun and good company. The Parks Department has supplied the beach
with more sand for sandcastle building and re-worked the horse shoe pit.
There will be games (2 giant Jenga games, Corn Hole and giant Connect 4) and a lifeguard on duty.
Thanks to Sadie and the other volunteer organizers. Come out and enjoy!
CHANGES TO THE BEACH HOURS
Wilmington will be losing 3 of its lifeguards today as they move on to their respective colleges. For those
who are leaving, thank you and have a terrific fall.
Even with the tempests and heavy rains this summer, the beach has been busy and still has a little more
than two weeks left before it closes for the season. Because of staffing, the beach will be closed on
Monday, August 19th, Monday August 26 and Tuesday August 27th. The final day for the beach is
September 2nd—18 days away.
SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM
Today is also the final day for this summer’s youth program. I have dropped by from time to time and it
looked like it was a great summer. Too short, perhaps, but most summers are. Thanks very much to
Hannah and Ashley for their hard work and creativity this summer, to LPCS and NYSEF for the rides when
needed, the members of the youth commission and to the parents.
ESSEX COUNTY FAIR
The Essex County Fair celebrates its 175 year this year. On Wednesday I went to the opening ceremony
as supervisor to support and honor the fair. For me, personally, the visit was also nostalgic. 50+/- years
ago I went each year with my grandparents and watched my grandfather compete in the harness racing.
I enjoyed watching the harness racing this past week and thinking of my grandparents.
The Fair runs until Sunday, August 18th.
