SUPERVISORS REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 3rd 2021
Tick–Tock, this year is almost over. Hard to believe. This is the time of the season when I start to reflect on where the time went, what we accomplished and what plans are for the future. On the town level, it is no different.
The most immediate event is our Community Christmas Celebration next Friday December 10th. From a Santa Parade to Fireworks at Preston Field, this is one of the great things about living in a small town like Wilmington. Look to the town Facebook page for more information,
On Saturday December 11th, the Friends of the Wilmington Library will once again have their popular fundraising event called “Cookies by the Pound Sale” Starting a 10 am and lasting until 1 pm, people can purchase pre filled containers of a variety of cookies. It’s a win–win. Cookies and helping a great cause. This sale will be held right at the Library.
I am excited to announce that the town is making plans to construct a covered skating rink in the Town Park. The Pavilion will be 130 feet long by 60 feet wide. The structure will allow for a more consistent ice rink and should prove to be useful to our community in many other
seasonal ways.
No direct costs will be incurred by Wilmington Taxpayers. In fact, seasonal resident Rhoda Morrisroe has once again stepped up to our community and pledged to match dollar for dollar donations up to $100,000. Through the years the Morrisroe family has substantially contributed to the Wilmington Community. Normally Mrs. Morrisroe does not want the recognition. However, at my urging she allowed me to tell people. From my standpoint, I just felt it was important for people to know we have many residents both full and seasonal folks that consistently contribute to our awesome town.
This Park Pavilion will be a welcomed addition to the other amenities available at the Wilmington Park. Plans are to construct the structure in a location that will command a scenic view of Whiteface Mountain while maintaining the charming feel of our recreational area.
Other funding sources for the $500,000. The Pavilion Project will hopefully come from grants and the Community Enhancement Fund that is funded through ROOST and is Wilmington’s share of the short term rental occupancy tax.
I have included a picture of the Pavilion the Town of Minerva constructed to give one an idea of what ours would look like. Should anyone like to contribute to this project or want additional information, please contact the Supervisors Office at 518 946–7179
That’s all for this week my friends. See you around town and stay safe. –Roy Holzer
